Choose the traceability unit
Traceability may be managed by heat, resin batch, production lot, cavity, shift or serial number. The right level depends on risk, process variation and customer requirements.
Keep identifiers connected
Incoming material, process parameters, inspection results, rework and packing labels should use identifiers that can be reconciled during investigation.
Test retrieval before launch
A traceability system is only useful if records can be retrieved quickly and accurately. Run a mock forward and backward trace before production approval.
